Wise Japanese Screenwriter

“It is work that requires persistent patience.”
-Shinobu Hashimoto, 1918-2018

Now, this guy (Hashimoto) was pretty sweet! He put Japanese cinema on the map. I’ve enjoyed his work over the years without even knowing it until I read about him after his death. He wrote the script for 1954’s Seven Samurai (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you should. Look it up!) George Lucas has credited 1958’s The Hidden Fortress with helping inspire Star Wars. Also, 1950’s Rashomon changed the language of cinema = Hashimoto tells a story of a murder and a rape from four different perspectives.

The phenomenon in which different people recall the same event in contradictory ways is now known as the “Rashomon Effect.”

Paraphrased and Quoted from The Week August 3rd, 2018.

Pretty neat. This man worked well into his nineties = Living proof of someone who loved what he did and did what he loved.

As a writer who plans on continually writing books as well as scripts, I hope to implement his tricks of the trade.

Thank you for your ingenuity and Blessings upon your next journey, Shinobu.
